Remarks: The original cocktail dates to the 1800’s and contained equal parts gin, Chartreuse, and sweet vermouth. We substituted Lillet Blanc and liked the drier version. . . .

Take your best shot. Remarks: While intended to be served as a shooter, we felt disposed to sip it. There are many drinks with the same or similar names. Has something to do with the zombie apocalypse, I suppose. Until then, enjoy. . . .

    PH factor: 9.5 Recipe Ingredients: Cocktail o pinch of sea salt o 1 ounce Woodford Reserve bourbon o 1 ounce Mount Gay XO rum o 2 bar spoons dark Crème de Cacao o 3 drops Bittermens Xocolatl Mole bitters or to taste Method: 1. Combine cocktail ingredients in an Old Fashioned glass. 2. Add a large ice cube and stir briefly. Remarks: A dessert drink. One we think would be good to sip as you resume the conversation that was interrupted by the arrival of that porterhouse steak. . . .

Stir cocktail ingredients over ice in an Old Fashioned glass. 2. Garnish with orange peel. Remarks: This is like an “imperfect” manhattan but brighter and more accessible. . . .

Stir cocktail ingredients over ice in a mixing glass. 2. Strain into an ice-filled Old Fashioned glass. 3. Garnish with a lemon peel. Remarks: Presumably named for the town that was named for the area’s original residents. We also tested this with Sambuca. IOHO, it is more interesting with absinthe. . . .

  • Gold Rush Cocktail

    PH factor: 8.5 Recipe Ingredients: Cocktail o 1 ounce Woodford Reserve bourbon o ½ ounce Galliano o ½ ounce Amontillado sherry o 1 ounce Lemon Squash, see: Syrups etc. o ½ ounce fresh lime juice o 1 egg white Garnish o orange slice o Tillen Farms Merry Maraschino cherry Method: 1. Shake cocktail ingredients without ice. 2. Add ice and shake again. 3. Double strain into an ice-filled Old Fashioned glass. 4. Garnish with an orange slice and cherry. Remarks: The Gold Rush Cocktail is golden, as you might expect. And it is rich tasting, also as you might expect. It is both a little familiar and yet unique at the same time. Which is unexpected . . .

Stir cocktail ingredients over ice in a mixing glass. 2. Serve up in a cocktail glass. 3. Garnish with a cherry. Remarks: Eager to try this? Well keep your pants er culottes on. It just takes a minute. . . .

  • Brown Butter Bourbon and Pear Cocktail

    PH factor: 9.5 Recipe Ingredients: Cocktail o 2 ounces Brown Butter Bourbon, see: Syrups etc. o 1 dash Peychaud’s bitters or to taste o 1 dash Hella Orange bitters or to taste o 1 ½ ounces Pear Syrup, see: Syrups etc. Garnish o lemon peel Method: 1. Stir cocktail ingredients over ice in a mixing glass. 2. Strain into an ice-filled Old Fashioned glass. 3. Garnish with a lemon peel. Remarks: This gets extra points for being so original. It tastes like liquid butterscotch but the bitters keep it from being cloying. . . .

  • Bourbon Pecan Pie Martini #2

    PH factor: 10 Recipe Ingredients: Cocktail o finely ground pecans o Ghirardelli Sea Salt Caramel Sauce o 2 ½ ounces Finlandia vodka o ½ ounce Jim Beam Bonded bourbon o ½ ounce Licor 43, Cuarenta y Tres o 1 ounce cream o 1 scoop Häagen-Dazs Bourbon Praline Pecan ice cream Method: Invert a martini glass into a shallow dish of caramel sauce to moisten the rim. Then invert it into a dish of ground pecans to coat the rim of the glass. 2. Blend remaining cocktail ingredients until smooth. 3. Serve up in the prepared glass. Remarks: This is a dessert-like cocktail. But one that could be fun any time you want a tasty snack. . . .

    PH factor: 8.0 Recipe Ingredients: Cocktail o 2 ounces Woodford Reserve bourbon o ½ teaspoon grenadine o ½ teaspoon Simple Syrup, see: Syrups etc. o 1 ounce fresh lemon juice o 3 ounces Fever-Tree Premium Club Soda Garnish o Tillen Farms Merry Maraschino cherry o lemon peel o edible flower petals Method: 1. Shake cocktail ingredients over ice. 2. Serve over ice in a collins glass. 3. Top with soda and stir once. 4. Garnish with a cherry and a lemon peel, or flower petals if you’ve a mind to. Remarks: A daisy is a cocktail with a spirit, sweetener, some citrus and soda. You can make a daisy with any spirit and probably should. . . .

  • Blackberry Bourbon Smash

    PH factor: 9.5 Recipe Ingredients: Cocktail o 3 mint leaves o 3 blackberries o ½ ounce fresh lime juice o ½ ounce Simple Syrup, see: Syrups etc. o 2 ounces Woodford Reserve bourbon o 1 ounce Fever-Tree Premium Club Soda Garnish o mint sprig o blackberries Method: 1. Muddle lime juice, syrup, mint leaves, and berries in a mixing glass. 2. Add ice and bourbon and stir to chill. 3. Strain into an ice-filled double Old Fashioned glass. 4. Add soda and stir lightly. 5. Garnish with blackberries and/or a mint sprig. Remarks: This drink can be described as a mojito for people who do the two-step and not the samba. . . .
