Peychaud’s Bitters

Recipe


Ingredients:

o 2 ½ cups Everclear or other

grain liquor

o peel of 1 large orange

(no pith)

o ¼ cup fresh mint

o 2 cardamom pods

o ½ teaspoon gentian root

o 1 to 2 teaspoons rose petals

or other edible flower petals

o 1 star anise

o 3 ounces dried cherries

o 1 cup water for dilution

if necessary


Method:

1. Combine orange peel,

mint, flowers and ½ of the

liquor in a small jar.

2. Combine remaining spirits

and ingredients in a second

jar.

3. After 2 to 3 days strain the

solids from the orange jar.

4. After 4 to 5 days strain the

solids from the second jar.

5. Combine and taste test

diluting as necessary.

6. For usage: Fill a small

dark glass jar preferably one

with an eyedropper.

For storage: Place the balance

in an airtight container. Seal

both well and refrigerate.
